Insects Name
Insects, which are also known as Hexapoda or Insecta, form the biggest group within the Arthropoda phylum. They have a body divided into segments, legs that are jointed, and an outer skeleton.
Their exoskeleton is made of a substance called chitin. In addition, they possess a body that consists of three parts, and each part has three pairs of legs that can move.
Furthermore, insects have combination eyes and a pair of antennae on their heads. Amazingly, insects make up about 90% of all the animals found on Earth.
The word ‘insect’ refers to well-known pests or carriers of diseases, such as bed bugs, houseflies, clothes moths, aphids, mosquitoes, fleas, horseflies, hornets, and more. Some insects, however, are helpful from the human perspective. They assist in pollinating plants that yield valuable substances and also control pest insects. Additionally, they serve as a food source for other animals.
Insects have been extensively studied in relation to hormonal actions, nerve functions, and sense organ behaviors. They are even used to gauge environmental quality, helping us assess the purity of water and the contamination level of the soil.
