Simple Past Tense Examples positive negative Interrogative
Simple Past Tense is a verb tense used to describe actions or events that happened and were completed in the past. It can be expressed in three forms: positive, negative, and interrogative.
In positive statements, we typically use the base form of the verb, with the addition of ‘-ed’ for regular verbs, to indicate actions that occurred in the past. For example, “She walked to school yesterday.“
To form negative statements, we use the auxiliary verb “did not” (didn’t) followed by the base form of the main verb. For instance, “They didn’t finish their homework.”
In questions, we inverted the subject and the auxiliary verb “did,” followed by the base form of the main verb. An example would be, “Did you eat breakfast this morning?“
