The pernicious peril of Dengue lurks amidst the aftermath of a mosquito’s bite. Each year, this venomous malady claims thousands of lives across the nation.

Dengue Awareness Day: Combatting the Menace of Mosquito-Borne Diseases in Kishanganj

In Kishanganj, the menace of mosquito-borne diseases, particularly dengue, looms large. With thousands of lives claimed every year across the nation due to this deadly illness, the need for heightened awareness and preventive measures cannot be overstated. Dengue cases peak during the rainy season, necessitating extra precautions to safeguard against this perilous disease.

National Dengue Day: Spreading Awareness and Preparedness

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, a prominent civil surgeon, highlighted the importance of raising awareness among the general populace regarding dengue. To this end, National Dengue Day is observed annually on May 16th at the national level. The health department organizes various initiatives and awareness programs to educate people about preventive measures against the disease.

This year, on the occasion of National Dengue Day, extensive awareness activities were conducted across all health institutions in the district. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director, the State Vector-Borne Disease Control Program, issued directives to all civil surgeons, chief medical officers, and district vector-borne disease control officers to conduct awareness programs, aligning with the theme of “Connect with Community, Control Dengue.”

Importance of Environmental Hygiene in Dengue Prevention

Dr. Manzar Alam, District Vector-Borne Disease Control Officer, emphasized the crucial role of maintaining clean and aesthetically pleasing surroundings in combating dengue. Stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for dengue larvae, posing a significant risk, especially during the monsoon season. Regular sanitation drives and proper disposal of waste are imperative to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes.

Recognizing Dengue Symptoms and Prevention Measures

Identifying symptoms and adopting preventive measures are pivotal in mitigating the impact of dengue. Symptoms such as high fever, muscle and joint pain, headache, eye pain, nausea, vomiting, and skin rash should not be taken lightly. Dr. Alam stressed the importance of wearing protective clothing and using mosquito repellents to minimize the risk of mosquito bites.

Dengue Prevention Guidelines:

  • Ensure no water accumulation in and around homes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene rigorously.
  • Cover stored water containers securely.
  • Regularly change water in coolers and flower pots.
  • Wear protective clothing that covers most of the body.
  • Use mosquito-repellent creams, sprays, and electronic devices.
