Topic information and goals

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Explain what trust and loyalty mean to you.
  • Raise a concern using observations and feelings.
  • Discuss rebuilding trust through clear and consistent actions.
Which builds trust more strongly: promises, honesty, consistency, transparency, or respectful privacy? Explain your choice in one sentence.

Learn six useful expressions

Earn someone’s trust

Build trust through reliable behaviour. “Trust is earned through consistent actions.”

Keep your word

Do what you promised. “I feel secure when we both keep our word.”

Give someone the benefit of the doubt

Avoid assuming guilt without enough evidence. “I want to give you the benefit of the doubt.”

Break someone’s trust

Damage confidence through dishonesty or betrayal. “Hiding important information can break someone’s trust.”

Be transparent

Communicate honestly and clearly. “We need to be transparent about decisions that affect both of us.”

Rebuild trust

Restore confidence after it has been damaged. “Rebuilding trust takes time and consistent effort.”

Build natural sentences

I felt concerned when…I felt concerned when the plan changed and I did not know why.
What I need in order to trust is…What I need in order to trust is honest communication.
Can you help me understand…?Can you help me understand what happened?
Trust can be rebuilt if…Trust can be rebuilt if actions match promises.
Say one personal sentence with each pattern before moving to the conversation.

Listen to a realistic conversation

Leena

Can we talk about something that has been bothering me?

Arjun

Of course. What happened?

Leena

I felt concerned when you changed your plan yesterday and didn’t tell me.

Arjun

I understand. The meeting ran late, but I should have sent a message.

Leena

I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, but communication matters to me.

Arjun

That’s fair. I wasn’t trying to hide anything.

Leena

I’m not accusing you. I’m explaining why the situation affected my trust.

Arjun

Thank you for saying it clearly. What would help?

Leena

A short update when plans change. I’ll try to do the same.

Arjun

Agreed. I want my actions to show that I keep my word.

Leena

Trust grows when we are consistent, not only when we apologise.

Arjun

You’re right. I’ll be more transparent from now on.

Shadow the key sentences

Listen and repeat immediately. Copy the rhythm, stress, and tone instead of pronouncing each word separately.
